F5 pool has less then 30% of active servers

Hi All,

I am new to SolarWinds' NPM (upgraded today from v12.2 to the new v12.3), so lots to figure out :-)

Now that I have discovered two of our F5 loadbalancers to test with, I noticed a number of F5 pool has less then 30% of active servers alerts.

Despite the fact that these are valid alerts, they are "by design".

What I cannot seem to figure out, is how to "override" specific pools to be monitored, or in other words; to select which pools are to be monitored and which are not.

Is this possible and if so, how to accomplish this?

Thanks in advance!

Does Solarwinds push any info out to Devices?

I know Solarwinds constantly pulls info but does it push any info out on a regular basis or at all?  I know you can push out configurations manually via NCM.  If Solarwinds does push out, what exactly does it push out and how often?  Hopefully this isn't confusing.  I'm trying to switch over to NPM 12.2 from my 12.1 where both are on VMs.  All my devices have the 12.1 server's IP address in their ACLs and I'm about to switch over that IP address to the 12.2 server and give the 12.1 server a different one.  Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hi All, We have SolarWinds license for Test (limited )and Prod. (unlimited license) Environment. We have limited license for the test environment, can we install the same software on new 2 servers? or do we need to purchase a new license for the test environment? As per my knowledge, we can do the same but will have to disable the license from existing servers. please correct me if I am wrong. Apart from this please also let me know, can we use existing test environment database or need to make one more database? License details of the Test Environment. Nightly Database Archive

I am aware that NPM runs a nightly job on the database but my DBA would like to know what exactly this nightly job does, for example is there any re-indexing done to reduce fragmentation or is it purely archiving off old data.

If someone could give me some details of what the nightly job does I would appreciate it, thanks

NMP: Got one node which I cant edit or find it in Manage Nodes but i can find it through new Orion Search. When I try to edit it I got error :

Looks like all the custom required properties are filled in, still I am unable to remove it and add it again as it is missing from the list in Manage Nodes view.

Maybe there is some way to delete it via SQL as I can see it in NodesData table.

Trap Viewer and Syslog Viewer Stopped Working

At one of our sites we recently started receiving an error when trying to launch Trap Viewer or Syslog Viewer. Any time one of the applications is launced, the following error is received.

Trap Viewer Stopped Working

The same general error appears for Syslog Viewer as well, except is says "Syslog Viewer has stopped working". We have checked our other sites and this seems to be the only one having this issue.

This instance is on a Windows Server 2012 R2 server. Current Orion Platform is 2017.3.5 SP5, NPM 12.2. The other instances that ARE working are on the same platform and product versions as well, with the same level of of Windows patches applied.

We have already tried rebooting the server and running a repair of Orion Core Services, neither of which helped. We have an open support ticket on this, but thought I'd reach out to the community to see if anyone has experienced this before or has any recommendations. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Hi All,

Need your input...

1. i have recently added 4 SAN switches and after discovery i dont see CPU, memory components identified... is anyone successful in getting it done via any other method.

2. In the Network Tab on the left side under the device, i see below details about connectivity Unit status and Sensor details.... Can this be used for alerting? These are showing up as read only..

The hardware sensors visible here are not available when checked under 'manage hardware sensors'...

Addition the poller & additional web servers in existing Environment.

Hi All, I want to know how to add the additional polling engine or additional Web servers across existing polling engine. basically, we are planning to enhance our SolarWinds test Environment and there is single polling engine in our test environment. now we want to add 2 additional pollers or one additional web servers & one additional poller and please let me know how to sync pollers & web servers with main polling engine? We have small (SL100) Test Environment. And what is the process of main polling engine migration? Do we have to deactivate the license from all setting> License Manager > select the modules (like NPM, SAM, NTA ..etc) do we also need to deactivate the license from Solarwinds customer portal? while installing the software where we should add the old license key on the new server?

Wireless Access Point Peak Client Connections Report Per Day

Hi Thwackers

I need some help once again with reporting,  I   want to generate hat supplies me with the peak wireless clients connections per site per day. We have about +/-   50 remote  sites and have numerous access points deployed at each  branch site. Our Access points naming convention is structured to represent the branch they are located.

I have pulled the standard build in report Average and Peak  Number of Clients by Access Point Last 7 Days which is very helpful but to filter all our branches per day and then provide the sum count is a bit of tedious task, custom reporting skills is not good at all. Below is what the build in report provides and also a good explanation on what I require

In a nutshell I want the report to group all the access points in SITE A  and then provide the sum values of the Average and Peak by group.

Thanks in advance!

NPM 12.3 upgrade issues

I was planning to do all of our app upgrades tomorrow, but with every large update, it takes considerably a length of time to resolve the issues after said upgrade.

Has anyone done the upgrade yet and had any issues after?

Polling Engine awareness

Environment: NPM 12.2, NTA 2.2

I have multiple polling engines that have differing tasks/polling rates -- VIM, Routing, UCS, Wireless -- spread out amongst them.  However, all polling engines have Polling and Hardware Health.

The Question:

Is there any dependency between a network device and the specific associated tasks of a polling engine?  Specifically, do I need to add all polling engines to the switch/router ACLs for Solarwinds SNMP access?

Or, does the network device simply need access to any polling engine in order for NPM to properly communicate with the network device?

I would never do this, but for clarity sake, if only a single non-primary polling engine has SNMP access to all my network devices, will NPM/NTA still be able to capture all the required data from the network devices?

Thanks

- Jai

Custom Dashboard with Multiple Node Details

$

Hello,

I am trying to build a new view/dashboard that will include node-specific details for a handful of devices.  Basically, we're trying to show summarized data in charts for a few devices at a specific location.  I started out using the Summary view, but that can't get to the level of detail I need.  I also tried the Details view, but that seems to be limited to a single node.

So, here's what I am looking for - a view that can combine the following:

- CPU, RAM, disk I/O and network usage for 2 servers

- specific interface utilization for a firewall and a handful of network switches

I want to use chart objects to combine like metrics.  So, for example, put CPU and RAM for servers in the same chart since they are percentages.  My main issue is not necessarily the data elements, it's being able to combine this level of detail for multiple nodes in the support view categories.

What view can support this?  I'm still on 11.5 unfortunately (upgrade in planning stages) but I need to set this up soon vs. waiting on an upgrade for enhancements to views.

Thanks for any suggestions.  I tried searching but didn't find this specific issue.
