Polling Duplex Settings

Is there anyway to be able to check the duplex settings of interfaces on a router. In an ideal situation  I would like an email anytime it spots a half-duplex link. Is there a custom poll that I can use that can grab this information from my routers? Thanks for the help in advanced!

Suggestion on Solarwinds install on system drive

Hi All,

We have come across a situation wherein Solarwinds was installed with evaluation version with DB on different server. Now the decision is made to use this setup itself for Prod

The servers built in this setup have only 1 disk which is a system drive and Solarwinds is also pointing to the same.. we really dont have a chance to re-install or migrate to new instance.

So what i would like to know is, will it be safe to keep using the system drive? I know its not recommended but left with no options....

Node is Up. Overall Hardware Status (Node) 'Overall Hardware Status' has state: Unknown.

We'd previously been using a different tool to monitor the hardware status of our network devices but are in the process of migrating that function to Solarwinds NPM.  Out of the ~1k nodes that we currently have onboarded into Solarwinds, just shy of 1/2 of those are showing an overall hardware status of  "Node is Up.  Overall Hardware Status (Node) 'Overall Hardware Status' has state: Unknown."  All of the nodes showing an "Unknown" hardware status are showing valid CPU, memory and interface utilization information.  The vendor name (Cisco) and model are also recognized.

I have read through a number of posts with similar topics and have tried all of the suggestions that I could find but nothing thus far seems to have helped.  There doesn't seem to be a common theme among the devices that are showing in an unknown state.  So far only deleting and re-adding the nodes to Solarwinds seems to resolve the issue (which isn't practical given the number of devices involved and the loss of historical data).  Below are some of the things that I have tried.

  • Rediscovered the device
  • Repolled the device
  • Verified that the SNMP community string passes the test in node settings
  • Verified that the OID is viewable via the MIB browser
  • Compared the SNMP configuration against known working devices of the same model & IOS version
  • Compared the node configuration in Solarwinds against known working devices of the same model & IOS version
  • Restarted services on all pollers
  • Changed the Hardware Health Polling Method from "Use global setting" to "CISCO-ENVMON-MIB" (The default is set to CISCO-ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB) for the node
  • Installed the most current set of MIBs from the Customer Portal (restarted services after install)
  • Verified that the MSMQ directrory wasn't >1GB
  • Deleted and re-added the node in Solarwinds <--- This is the only step that I have found which resolves the issue thus far.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Manually adding IP adresses to Nodes

Hi

I have some Palo Alto firewalls in my NPM but the Palo Alto MIb does not include OIDs for anything but the Management IP address.

However in Netpath and in reports I would like to have the other IPadresses on the Palo Alto firewall registered.

Is there a way to add them manually GUI or Directly to the database.

I hope that the Palo Alto insight feature request gets filled real soon

12.2 NPM Installation Questions

1) I am installing NPM 12.2 with NCM and have downloaded the package but as I am going through the installation package, I don't see an option to choose which Drive I want Solarwinds to be installed on; it defaults to the C drive.  Is there a way to choose?

2) I will use the SQL Express database for this installation as well.  If I preinstall SQL Express before I execute the installation package, will the package ask me if it will use the current SQL Express or will it automatically create its own?  Will there even be an option to choose?

3) This is for scalability down the road if the network ever gets larger but for now SQL Express has worked out; I'm using the SL500 license and have not reached half the capacity yet but let's say I reach close to the limit of 500 interfaces or need to upgrade my license to SL2000, is there a way to move from SQL Express to a separate SQL database?

I appreciate all feedback and real life experiences.

Monitoring Dashboard (NOC View) - Ideas/Suggestions

Hi Guys,

I've been tasked with reviewing our current monitoring solution and dashboards. What I have found is our monitoring dashboards (NOC View) aren't very clear.

We're using the latest version of all of the Solarwinds components (NPM, WPM and SAM).

We have TVs setup to show the state of our environment but it flicks through a two screens, both are Solarwinds dashboards (NOC View)

I would like to know how you've used Solarwinds to give you clear, single pane of glass dashboards for your support teams to look at.

The teams concerned are Infrastructure and Networks - So that's two different dashboards.

Ideally, screenshots of some boards would be fab!

Temperature Sensor Monitor

I'm trying to add our temperature sensor  Temperature@lert Wifi Edition Version 6.24 as a node (entity) but not having much luck. It will not pass the test or allow me to click next and gives me the error message Node does not respond with the supplied read/write community string

I'm going to manage node

Add Node

Enter the IP of the temperature node

Selecting Most Devices

Match the SNMP version, SNMP port and community string from the temperature monitor.
There is no read/write community string on the temperature monitor

I've tried this article Node does not respond with the supplied read/write community string
I have tested adding a different device without issue.

I can ping the temperature monitor from the solarwinds server.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is the "APM" agent plug-in used for?

I was looking at the  results for the :Agent Plugin Inventory report for the purpose of correlating each plug-in listed with the function and parent application. What is the "APM" plugin used for and what application installs it? For that matter, is there a reference document that lists all of the currently available plugins and maps them to the source application and functionality in Orion?

Thanks.

SQL In-Memory OLTP performance SQL 2012 VS 2016

Hi

Is there any big  change in performance if we move from SQL 2012 to SQL 2016 SP1 ?

I have SLX/NCM on that setup.

How do I change the names in the "All Nodes" widget on the Summary Page?

This is defaulted to Vendor and Status so I see:

Unknown

Cisco

Windows

How do I change this so my Group names are in here?  For example I made a group "California" and placed all nodes in there which are located in California.  How do I place this group in the "All Nodes" section?

I have an old BestLink snmp/web adapter card in a UPS. What MIB or UnDP is available from Solarwinds to monitor it?

Yes, this is an old UPS.  Yes, it will be replaced.

But until I replace it, I'm interested in getting more information from it, if that's possible.

If you have a similar device, and are getting useful information from it via snmp into NPM, what MIB/OID's/UnDP are you using to monitor and poll it with?

Unable to poll Contexts, HA status and ACLs of Cisco ASAs

Hi All,

We've recently upgraded the NPM to 12.2 and was excited to explore Cisco ASA Insight monitoring. However, when configured monitoring of the ASAs  using its CLI and enable credentials, the contexts, HA status, ACLs are not being polled.

I followed the instructions at Set up monitoring Cisco ASA firewalls - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support , to configure its monitoring.

The CISCO ASA versions I have trouble on are:

Cisco ASA 5555-X

Cisco ASA 5585 SSP 10SC

While troubleshooting the same, found that the connection to these multi-context ASAs take me to the "admin" context directly and when I execute "execute" on it, it throws error. PFA its screenshot. Is this something to be worried about?

What could be the reason for the data not being polled ?

FYI, I also have configured the same on below two ASAs which are not multi-context and the data is polled perfectly fine for them.

Cisco ASA 5525-X

Cisco ASA 5585 SSP 20

Is this something related to being "MULTI_CONTEXT" ???

Any help here would really be appreciated.

Many Thanks!

Hello all,

I was just reaching out to see if any of you have tips or tricks with monitoring cisco wireless equipment. I'm not really seeing a whole lot other than the basic wireless view that shows the APs and clients connected to those APs. Please let me know as anything will be greatly appreciated! THANKS!

Want to know what OIDs Orion is using for monitoring the Network device

$

Hi Team,

I am just trying to correlate the Manage Engine with Solarwinds NPM.

In manage Engine, we have Network device template concept, where each template will be having the multiple SNMP monitors associated with specific OIDs with respect to CPU, Memory, Interface, temperature.

Do we have the same concept in Solarwinds NPM module too, I want to know, whether we have an option in NPM console where i can find, which OID is used for monitoring CPU, memory and temperature of specific CISCO series router.

Veeresh

I have found that there is a limit of nine trigger conditions in one statement.  After that, the SWQL statement shows repeated values instead of new entries.  Is this a bug or a limitation in the software?

NPM upgrade problem

I ran into a problem while upgrading NPM from 12.0.1 to 12.2.0 that hope someone can help. I am in the process of upgrading the whole suites. I am following the upgrade path as suggest by SW online. The next steps is suppose to upgrade SAM before NPM, but my current Orion Platform is not compatible with NPM.... I tried to uninstall NPM per online instruction, but now I got the license expired message.  I did open a support case with SW, but the engineer only call at night when I am out of the office. Any idea will be appreciated.

Orion Platform 2017.1.3 SP3, IPAM 4.3.2, SAM 6.3.0, DPA 10.2.0, NCM 7.5.1, IVIM 2.1.2, QoE 2.2.0, NetPath 1.0.1, NPM 12.0.1, NTA 4.2.0, UDT 3.2.3

On the Bluecoat ProxySG's, has anyone managed to be able to use SNMP (poll not trap) to bring back a value of when the last policy change date was?
