${Name} removal from alert?!?

I made a custom alert for a new setup. I have some small custom fields that tells me a little about the machine, as described, but when I go to test it, I get the following.

Is it because it's a custom field?  If it is how can I remove ${Name} from the alert?

Here is the HTML code I used.

HOW TO FIND - Last logged on User per node need help with this!

You can see the last logged on user in the System Information for Inventory in NPM per node.

How do I get a report that has Node Name, Machine Type and Last logged on user and last boot time?

I cannot see where to separate this information in the SQL DB and I am not seeing where I can choose this when creating a report on all my Windows Nodes in NPM.

Any help would be appreciated

Syslog monitoring & Archival

Dear Experts,

In our environment, NPM is already in use for monitoring  network devices, Adding to it, We were asked to monitor syslog messages now. After going through thwack forum and SolarWinds documentation, I understand that we have a separate module called KIWI syslog for mentioned requirement.

Environment contains - 5000 devices

But in some documents, I noticed that NPM/Orion platform does have feature to monitor and archive syslog messages, and it can process upto 300 messages / second

Monitor Syslog messages - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support

Required clarification On:

1) Does Solarwinds NPM alone can perform similar functionalities of KIWI syslog server ?

2)In above approach , I understand that all syslog messages will be inserted into Database. Can we define/control what messages can be inserted into database..i.e only critical severity messages.

3) Does solarwinds Orion platform server can act as central syslog server( i.e should receive all syslog messages from all network devices) , And should store all incoming syslog messages into a flat file.

Requesting your suggestion and response on this, please

DNS credential required for multi-subnet HA

Dear Experts,

As per below article, while creating SolarWinds HA Pool between multi sub net, It requires DNS server credentials.

Set up an HA pool - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support

==>Enter administrative credentials for the DNS server.

My understanding is that, HA software will use this credentials to dynamically point the virtual hostname to direct traffic to Active server,, during failovers. And so whenever any failover occur the DNS table will be modified by the HA software.

Could you kindly validate my understanding and also help me with some related information's, please

NetPath Alert Variables

I have a NetPath test and a corresponding alert setup and it works by telling me the path's status has changed. However, there are no alert variables for what the cause or source of the failure is. For example, packet loss at the remote endpoint. The only way to see this is to view the NetPath probe page itself.

Orion Server migration with HA implementation

Hi All,

I'm migrating our Orion server to virtual server and Implementing HA (Single subnet) on this weekend with new hostname & IP address. I would like to clear few things before HA implementaiton.

I'm planning to use the existing Orion IP  as Virtual IP in new Solarwinds server for HA. Currently DNS entry for this IP is pointing to the host name of existing Orion server hostname. I'll delete this DNS entry before  I configure HA in new server. Do we need to add any DNS entry for the existing Orion IP for using as VIP in HA?

A quick response is very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Josh

Is there a better way to clean up clutter?

$

So I wanted to post this to the forum to see what idea's or tips there might be to help me out.

We have an environment that's been operational for many many years. It's been through it's shares of problems, upgrades, swaps, modules, etc. We've had the works.

Doing an audit I've noticed remnants and orphaned files. More specifically what I mean is for example I'll find remnants of old updates. Remnants of modules we've had proof of concept on but never really used. Remnants of modules we did use but no longer do. We find connection strings still pointed towards these places that are no longer valid, connection strings to old servers that are no longer part of the monitoring environment and solarwinds. We find site settings that belong to older sites no longer used. etc. There is plenty of remaining clutter that needs to be cleaned up.

My problem is when it comes to finding and how to properly clean these things out without it affecting production. Purpose is to keep an organized and efficient system that can be scaled further for future use. I find that with old connection strings I've had them removed several times before but upon running configuration wizard they are added back on.

In our database the data also needs to be better maintained.

Can anyone show me or guide me to how to clean up these? Or better yet, how do admin's on here maintain a clean running environment?

Help with Creating Charts for UnDP Tables

So my issue is I would like to create charts for some custom UnDP table pollers.  I have multiple OID's I am monitoring PANVsysName (1.3.6.1.4.1.25461.2.1.2.3.9.1.2) and PANVsysSessionUtilization (1.3.6.1.4.1.25461.2.1.2.3.9.1.3).  There could be 50 - 100 vSys values in the table.  I need help figuring out how to display a chart on the Node details page so it only displays the UnDP for that device.... and since there are so many values, have some type of drop down on the chart that could be selected to display a graph for that particular vSys (so it doesn't try to graph all values at once).  So it displays a single vSsys graph at a time with a drop down to select any of the other vSys values and see those charts.  I do not see any built in functionality in Orion to accomplish this, but have seen some pretty interactive things done with SQL in Orion.  Was hoping that was an option, just need some verification if anyone thinks its possible and if so, some assistance on accomplishing it.

thanks

Has anyone else ever had Orion NOT recognize an Excel file when they try to import it?? I've tried everything, even downloaded the example spreadsheet, & nothing has worked. I've got a ticket open & even the support guy isn't sure what's going on. So I thought I'd check on here and see if anyone else has ran into this issue.

Node is unknown with the Agent installed

I have 5 new nodes/entities that were added to SolarWinds with the agent installed.  The agent status shows up and connected but the node status is unknown.  I changed how the status is calculated from Agent Status to ICMP and the node is still unknown.  I am able to get to the real time process explorer, the service control manager timeouts and then when you retry it displays the servers, and the real-time event log viewer does the same thing.  This server is in a new domain.  I do have WMI credentials set up for the domain but WMI is blocked through the firewall and only the agent ports are allowed through.  Is there a way to specify want credentials the agent should use?

Thanks,

Steve Hall

[Question] How to get more info out of Sonus SBC

$

I'm new to the Solarwinds platform, so I'm a bit unsure how to approach the request I've been given about getting additional info for a Sonus device in our environment. I did a bit of basic searching, but could not find anything that seemed similar enough (in my current level of understanding) to what is needed. Here is what is requested:

"At the moment solarwind does not detect SBC as Sonus SBC or Voice gateway. So to start with Vendor information is not there. Also none of the capabilities of SBC are not there from solarwinds point of view.

For example we like to see ip telephony related information from solarwinds.  Please check the attached MIBWALK and ip telephony area. That lists all the information we need. We also want to analyze any information related to SfB call and voice gateway capabilities. This also monitoring the SfB platform or at least as much as possible with Solarwinds."

MIB walk 1MIB walk 2

I have only really worked with Cisco devices so far, so the only idea I've had so far is creating a custom poller, which I am currently trying to learn how to do. I will continue to look and learn, but if anyone has suggestions for a beginner in the platform, please let me know.

Thanks!
