Unexpected error: An error occurred while generating map

Hi, usually I would go straight to create a support case but since custom portal is not available at the moment so I thought I will try my luck here.

Since Friday we are receiving the following error on "Map" widget - Unexpected error: An error occurred while generating map 57624e8f-7c10-4821-99b8-48f41b55a002.OrionM, when I try to edit the widget itself I get the following error: RunQuery failed, check fault information. Unknown provider Cortex.

Txt dump is as follows:

Message: RunQuery failed, check fault information.

         Unknown provider Cortex.

ErrorSite: SolarWinds.MapEngine.Executor.Execute

ErrorType: System.ServiceModel.FaultException`1[[SolarWinds.InformationService.Contract2.InfoServiceFaultContract, SolarWinds.InformationService.Contract2, Version=2017.4.0.1540, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null]]

In addition I cannot connect to Network Atlas (neither from remote location or directly from server, I have tried both local SolarWinds admin account and my domain account). We get the following error: "An unexpected error occurred while trying to connect to the server. Please contact support." I have checked our programs and features based on one of the KBs and we have only newest IPAM version installed.

I have tried following so far but nothing helps:

-Run configuration Wizard

-Run Database maintenance

-Restart all SW servers (we have database separated from main server and one ape)

-Reinstall Network Atlas

-Delete content of localhost folder from Temp\SolarWinds

(SolarWinds services were restarted after each action).

Maybe some of you had similar issues and will be able to help.

Trap viewer takes too long time

Hi,

I am working to reduce the time to see the events on orion console. In order to do this job, I am testing NPM performance.

I was very surprised when I found out that SolarWinds Trap Viewer takes 23 second (medium) to display the current traps. I confronted the same test with other trap receiver tools (no SolarWinds and opensource), and they take about 1 second (the same of specific device log).

Solarwinds describes this Trap Viewer as "REAL-TIME", but I think 23 seconds of delay is not real-time considering that we are not talking about alerts or event, but we are talking about the row datas (no elaboration, no SQL query...).

What do you think about? Someone can explain to me how it works? Someone has found faster time?

Thanks

Impact of Reducing the Polling Interval

Hi All,

A very basic and general question, though I know its answer to an extent but I might be missing out something or the other. Can you please help me in answering the below queries.

What impact will it make on the pollers and database if we:

1. reduce the ICMP polling interval from 120 seconds (default) to 10 seconds

2. reduce the Statistics Polling interval from 10 minutes(default ) to 1 minute

Will this slow does the whole system ?

At what ratio does this increases the polling rate of a poller ?

Thanks!

Control M Jobs failed Dashboard or count status?

Hello Team,

I just wondering for Control M jobs dashboard in Solarwinds. Is that possible like can we see the job details or JOB failed to count in solarwinds?

We are monitoring control m jobs via trap messages and converted critical jobs via Servicenow alert. or is there any possibilities through trap messages to get the Controm M job failed count in solarwinds?

CORE CPU MONITORING

$

We are having a situation where a server has 4 CPUs and CPU1 has reached 100% and system got hung. Some times CPU2 or CPU3 or CPU4 reached 100%. Sometimes 2 CPUs reached 100%. On all these ocassions, system got hung.

Since Solarwinds monitors the average of 4 CPUs and not at the each CPU level, every time system gets hung.

Is there a solution to the above scenario, where we can monitor and alert the server owner that each CPU is reaching its Warning/Critical thresholds. Please advise.

Solarwinds Performance is Horrible after 12.3 upgrade

I am wondering why the discussion Solarwinds is now horribly unstable.  is locked? For an ongoing issue that we also are experiencing, why would thwack moderators choose to lock the discussion and prevent other customers from weighing in, and asking questions? I am attempting to apply the work around in the post, but I wanted to open another thread since the other one is locked. Hopefuly other customers that have upgraded to 12.3 can communicate on thwack. I found that the memory of the Cortex service was using 24-29GB of the 32GB available on the server of my primary poller, and it causes the web console and polling to not function. I'll reply back to this thread after I apply the proposed work-around on the other thread linked above.

OUR ENVIRONMENT: Primay Poller (HA Primary), 18 Additional Pollers (9 Active / 9 HA), 2 AWS, Physical SQL Server with 32 cores, 148 GB Memory, Raid 10 LUNs on 3 Par with SSD.

Node Notes resource for Summary Views

$

Hi folks,

I am trying to create a resource that will display Node Notes for Unmanaged nodes.

So far I've tried doing this with a Custom Table and dynamic query builder but I can't find the query for Node Notes.

Only other option it seems is to create a custom swql/sql but I am looking for some help with joining data from NodesData and NodeNotes tables.

I wish to have the following included in the table:

Caption (hyperlinked), StatusLED, Unmanaged From, Unmanaged Until, Node Notes

Any help with this query would be greatly appreciated.

Solarwinds is still not stable

The other thread is closed so I figured I would start a new one I usually get more help here than actually contacting support.

So same issues as before but instead of the server not responding in 36 hours or so it took maybe a week but it is the SAME issues.

1. Server stopped sending alerts out sometime around 11AM on the 4th.

2. Logged onto server and opened Orion service manager and both the module engine and the administration service were going back and forth between running and stopping.

3. Orion could not connect to SQL

4.  I have some alerts that at are going out but not sure if they are legit or not.

5. After the reboot I notice that a good chunk of my nodes interfaces are 'unknown' this looks like it fixes itself but again something else going on.

I have applied the 'hotfix' that you all pushed out to try to fix this.

I have done the change from streaming to buffered

I have done the registry change for the ports

The only thing I have not done is revert the snap shots back to June 14th prior to the update so Solarwinds is stable again.

At this point I am going to schedule a task in VM Ware to reboot the server every night.  That is pretty much the only way I will know Solarwinds will actually work.

Thoughts?  serenaaLTeReGo

False alerts of Node Down

Hi All,

I am curious to know like if the node is down then why we are not getting the message like Node status is now why frequently generating the alert as abcd.com has stopped responding (Request timeout). there should be Node status down.

Node status.

SNOW alert details- Not triggered alert as SNOW ticket, while its already configured.

Anyone else have problems with alerts post upgrade?

Hello,

We've just upgraded to NPM 12.3 this past Monday. After the upgrade we have been getting random disconnect alerts from items on our watch list.

These are ATA's, and it's not the same ones each time. Each entry on the list has been affected at one time or another, never all at once.

On the watch list itself, these missing items show as 'never been seen'. But then they return. We've reset the ATA's, checked to see if there had been any changes to the machines or changes in the area,

had them monitored by other means and didn't lose connectivity. This all began post upgrade.

Has anyone else had this happen to them? If so, what did you do to correct it?

Thank you for looking,

Ken

Cisco Switch Stack CPU utilization Issue

$

We have been using IPmonitor and NPM as well as we transition to NPM completely. Recently we had a issue of high CPU utilization with switches in stack.

Both IPmonitor and NPM did not indicate there was a high CPU issue. Although on logging directly into the switch i can see it running at 99% CPU continuously.

It seems that SNMP value being monitored is of for whole switch stack in this case 8 switches, instead of monitoring SNMP from the main master switch which is acting as the brains for the stack.

Any recommendation into resolving this issue.

Network Atlas - Port Description Variable

Hi Forum!,

If this has been asked before please could you point me in the right direction, but i couldn't find anything that answered my query.

What i am trying to do is on a Atlas Map, i want to add a cisco switch port object and in the label ideally i would like to add the port number and description, and if that description changed on the switch, i would like that to reflect in the network map.

For example

Node Picture (ie. Green circle if active) - Fa1/1 Portdescription (description referenced in the CLI of the Cisco switch.

Is this possible?

Possible to embed python script in a custom view?

$

I'm completely new to this so sorry if the terminology is totally wrong.

My requirement is to display in Solar Winds the data being managed by our Velocloud network. The problem is that Solarwinds does not see it correctly so going through the Solar winds SDK to grab anything from their database isn't going to give me the correct information. So, I'm trying to find a way to pull the information directly from the Velocloud database.

Velocloud sent me a Python script that will pull the data I need from their database.. We currently have a custom view someone created that is not being used called "Node Details - Custom Tab 8". My thought is that if that view is rendered as a web page that I can edit the html and embed the python script and have it run through CGI (Common Gateway Interface) and display what I need. Will that work?

If there is a better way and I'm totally missing it please let me know. Thanks.

Node Renaming Query

$

So, I've seen that bulk rename of nodes isn't available but there are some kludges / workarounds that I have seen. Not keen on using any of those right now as it means diving into the database.

My query is relatively simple, I guess.

I have a node that is discovered as, say ABC_123. If I edit that node and rename it to: Prefix-ABC_123 will that rename remain after a re-discover operation or will it default back?
