Hello,

Normaly every nodes is assigned in a group, but sometimes they will forget to set a node in a group.

How can I see, maybe with a report, witch nodes are not assigned in a group.

Multicast routing group status is not normal - on 224.77.0.0 - 6500 - on VSS500

Solarwinds just trigger this alert for me. I'm not entirely sure what it means.

Trigger Condition:

At least one child condition must be satisfied (OR)
    Multicast Group Nodes - Status - is equal to - Unknown
    Multicast Group Nodes - Status - is equal to - Warning
    Multicast Group Nodes - Status - is equal to - Down

HTTPS monitor error message

Afternoon all, hoping someone is able to help...

I've got a number of Windows 2008 VMs running IIS, when trying to add the HTTPS Monitor template I'm getting the error message, "node xxx failed with 'Down' status. The underlying connection was closed: The connection was closed unexpectedly". Now I have a number of these servers in the same subnet and the Solarwinds box is able to see them without explicit firewall rules in place, has anyone seen this error message before in relation to HTTPS monitoring? I've tried with all the credentials saved in Solarwinds but no joy unfortunately.

Update: I've also tested this by re-adding one of the existing HTTPS hosting servers using the secondary polling engine, they get the same error message. I think this proves it's not a Firewall\endpoint server issue..

Multi-VRF support, Nexus 7K, and arguing with TAC! :-)

So, working on a future deployment of Solarwinds at my new job and running into a couple stumbling blocks, the first being able to support multiple VRF's on our Nexus core switches within Solarwinds.   I've posted a feature request here that might make it work better, but right now I'm getting inconsistent results and wondering if others might be running into the same thing or have a solution for me.

Poll multiple SNMP contexts for a single node

We have both a production and Dev environment here and I'm getting different results in the different environments, which is very odd.   I opened a TAC case and they're simply telling me that without polling multiple contexts, because you have one VRF associated with each context, that it won't work.   However, that's not the results I'm seeing.

I first worked on my dev environment and tried various approaches to associate multiple VRF's with a single context, but it just doesn't map that way.   But, then I noticed that there is a "snmp-server context <contextname> instance <routing instance>" command that takes a routing instance and associates it to a context.  Since our internal network is done with MPLS and BGP routing, which has all the VRF's associated with it, I associated the BGP routing instance to the context that Solarwinds monitors.   Then under the Network tab  on the node in the "List of VRFs on Node", like magic all my VRF's showed up just like I wanted!  Problem solved, right?

Well, I took this and put it on the demo server we have on our production side and basically duplicated the config, only to be stuck with a single VRF again.    How annoying!  To have something working just fine, but not being able to replicate it, and when you ask tech support, they tell you that what you're already doing on one box can't be done?

So, who out there is monitoring multiple VRF's on a single node with Orion and how are you doing it?   Mostly interested in the Nexus platform, but others would be nice to know too.

Or is everyone else frustrated that Cisco TAC tells you that you can't do it, you need to monitor each VRF with a separate context?

Report help needed

I'm doing a report that basically shows the Average Receive, Average Transmit, Max Receive & Max Transmit utilisation on certain links.

But I've done the report in Report Writer and Web-Based and between the 2, I get different results for the Average columns. I believe the Report Writer version is showing the correct utilisation as when I refresh the Web-Based report the Average figures will change. Each are showing data for the Last Month.

This is what I get in Report Writer

This is what I get in Web-Based

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

This is my Web-Based table view

Thanks!

Are old data kept when replacing devices?

We are currently performing a LAN refresh and replacing our switches.

Sometimes it's a 1:1 replacement with a newer model and sometimes 2 or 3 switches are replaced with a stack.

If I had Switch1, Switch2 and Switch3 and replaced them with a stack of Switch1, the Switch would have the same name and IP Address of the Original Switch1.

If I delete Sw1, Sw2 and Sw3 and recreate Sw1, will the existing historical performance data be kept anywhere?

Many thanks.

JunOS Chassis alarm alerts

One of our Juniper EX9214 had an Chassis error on FPC7.  We didnt get any kind of warning from Solarwinds that there was an error on the box. I looked through the resource list and am not sure how to make sure we are getting the errors that happen on the Chassis. Anyone know how to fix this issue?

Currently running Orion Platform 2016.2.100, NCM 7.5.1, NPM 12.0.1  I will be upgrading our platform to the most current versions here shortly and Server 2016 /SQL 2016.  Are there more options for Polling statistics on JunOS in the more current versions?

Thanks,

How to add a custom OID to monitor on a Cisco Router

$

Hello Y`all,

I'm hoping the community could help answer some questions:

1) How would I add a custom OID in my NPM to be monitored on an existing Cisco Router?

2) Specifically I'm looking to monitor states of BGP.  I'm not sure if Solarwinds has a way to monitor every state and if it can how would the colors look like if I placed it in Network Atlas?  I guess to make things easier, I want BGP to be green if the state is "established" and for any other state the color would be red.

3) If Solarwinds can do what I'm looking for, how would that affect the state of the physical router itself as opposed to the state of BGP the router has configured?  For example, right now the router is physically up so the color of the node is obviously green but if the BGP goes down the node will still be green because the node is still up but how would I know that BGP is down?

Sorry if this seems confusing but basically all I want to do is be able to monitor BGP for an existing node and have that come up as green or red depending on the states.

Hello..

I am on NPM 12.1 version. there are four nodes where SNMPv3 test of these nodes was successful but still I see nodes are in down state (red). Could some one help in solving this issue.

Some alerts not displaying variable information...

$

Hi guys,

We have found more recently that some of our alerts are not displaying the variable information as they used to. It is frequently sending us emails like this:

FebNode Name: W2008-GCSXDC (${Node.IP_Address})
Status: ${Status}
Comment: ${Node.Comments}
Total Size: ${VolumeSize}

Used: ${VolumeSpaceUsed}
Free: ${VolumeSpaceAvailable}
Percentage Used: ${VolumePercentUsed}

Oddly it will sometimes actually display the variable information instead of the ${...} but it seems to be getting more frequent. Has anyone come across this, or aware of any bugs?

We are currently running NPM 12.2, Orion Platform 2017.3.1 SP1

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Anyone built NPM in a container/docker ?

Need help building an alert - NPM.

I am trying to define the trigger conditions for an alert. If a node with a system name containing 'PUB' and an IP range of 192.168.xx.2 to 192.168.xx.126 is discovered, then I would like to be notified.

Part of the issue is that it does not appear that I have the ability to analyze the 3rd and/or 4th node of the IP address.

Interface Discards/Errors Percent Alert

$

This query was originally adapted from jbiggley post in Percentage Interface Errors and Discards @ polling interval

For the purposes of this post and to keep it as simple as possible, I'm trying to create an alert that will identify interfaces that exceed a threshold defined as a percentage of receive discards (.1% for this example). This query works just fine in SQL studio and the returned results are all the interfaces that meet or exceed the .1% receive discards threshold.

SELECT Interfaces.FullName, Interfaces.InterfaceID FROM Interfaces
JOIN  (SELECT id.[interfaceid],    CASE      WHEN id.[in_discards] + ISNULL(it.[in_totalpkts], 0) = 0 THEN 0      ELSE ROUND((([in_discards]) / (id.[in_discards] + ISNULL(it.[in_totalpkts], 0))) * 100, 2)    END ReceivePercentDiscards  FROM [dbo].[interfaceerrors_detail] id WITH (nolock)  LEFT JOIN [dbo].[interfacetraffic_detail] it WITH (nolock) ON id.interfaceid = it.interfaceid  AND id.[datetime] = it.[datetime]  WHERE in_discards > 0    AND id.datetime >= Dateadd(ss, -900, Getdate())) AS T1 on T1.interfaceid = interfaces.interfaceid
WHERE [T1].[ReceivePercentDiscards] >= .1;

My question pertains to how I take this information and use it in a trigger action, as this is my first SQL alert. With all my other alerts, that identify issues through the drop down menu conditions (for lack of a better way to phrase it), I am able to use the variables such as ${N=SwisEntity;M=Node.DisplayName} or ${N=SwisEntity;M=InterfaceName}. My first question is if it is possible to pass the ReceivePercentDiscards value into my trigger action. If it is, how would I go about such a thing?

I have tried passing the below variables, but instead of passing the actual ReceivePercentDiscards value, it just shows up as "{SQL: [T1].[ReceivePercentDiscards]}":

C:\windows\system32\windowspowershell\v1.0\powershell.exe -ExecutionPolicy unrestricted -command "C:\sw_tools\scripts\slack\Slack_Alert_Trigger_RX-Discard.ps1 '${N=SwisEntity;M=Node.DisplayName}' '${N=SwisEntity;M=InterfaceName}' '${N=SwisEntity;M=Alias}' '{SQL: [T1].[ReceivePercentDiscards]}' '${N=Alerting;M=AlertDetailsUrl}' '${N=SwisEntity;M=Node.DetailsUrl}' '${N=Alerting;M=AcknowledgeUrl}' '${N=Generic;M=DateTime;F=OriginalValue}'"

Custom properties not showing on NPM secondary server (HA)

$

Hi,

I did DB migration for Solarwinds, and ran configuration wizard on both nodes in HA pool.

The first server is working perfectly, but the second server (secondary) is not able to see the custom properties (I have used report writer in the NPM summary) when setting it as Active.

Both servers are in the same subnet and are able to access the database.

Any idea how to resolve this issue?

Thank you in advance.
