Hi,

I wanted to know how SolarWinds calculate the ping response for both SNMP and ICMP?

Ping problems after upgrading

We're seeing some very odd issues with NPM here. First, a bit about our environment:

Over 7600 nodes
We use 5 additional pollers as well as main poller
Server 2016 main poller:
VMware virtual server with 24 CPU, 64GB ram.
NPM 12.3

UDT 3.3.1

NCM 7.8

VNQM 4.5

IPAM 4.7

NTA 4.2.3

Database server: Server 2016 with SQL 2016

Since ugprading all the applications on 6/15, we've found that on 6/22 the server hung. After resetting it, many nodes began showing as down. We found that they were up if pinged from another machine. Then we realized that ping itself is timing out or not working on the main poller. If we stop the solarwinds services, ping starts working again. Trying to isolate an individual service causing the issue didn't find the culprit. It seems like it might be the job engine service, but stopping it by itself doesn't get ping working again, and we need it running regardless.

I wanted to know like how AP works & which kind of parameter checks to disappeared from WLC in Solarwinds

Hey Guys,

I was looking for an Access point's information. Like how it works in SolarWinds. We have more than 50 WLC added in SolarWinds and Cisco APs are connected to different WLCs.

We observed today almost 7 APs are frequently disconnecting while we haven't found any issue in either routing/switching or WLC and even there were no power issues. In our Environment APs are not added in Solarwinds they connected to  WLC and WLC added in Solarwinds. that's why I wanted to know like how AP works, which kind of parameter checks to disappeared from WLC in SolarWinds.

Put credentials in HTTP Post body

I'm trying to send HTTP Post requests to Autotask via Solarwinds Orion but there's no way to put the username and password to authenticate and without those I can't send any information. I've got it working in Postman but there is a spot to put the credentials as part of the UI. Right now I'm trying to make a powershell script that will execute automatically but there is still no way to put in the username and password. Is there any way that I can:

a) put the credentials in the body of the HTTP Post so I can send it directly from Orion, or

b)Generate a token or put the credentials somewhere in the powershell script

discrepancy transmit receive on interfaces

peeps,

i am seeing the folllowing on one of my managed devices. I am trying to get my head around why the receive is at 44% and transmit is at 81%. this router only has 2 interfaces; ingress and egress.

so apart from maybe some netflow traffic and snmp traffic, i would expect ingress receive to be the same as egress transmit.  the bandwidth speeds in NPM are 100Mbs ingress and egress.  so what could be causing this difference?

Azure Cloud Service types ?

HI All,

hope this finds you well. i am just wondering since NPM 12.3 the release notes mention that solarwinds "Support Orion cloud deployment in Amazon EC2 and Azure VM"

https://support.solarwinds.com/Success_Center/Network_Performance_Monitor_(NPM)/release_notes

i am just wondering again has anyone tried with SQLaaS or PaaS for either SQL database or the front end 'Orion'? i understand VMAN appliance inst support in cloud deployments, this is more for NPM and SQL.

i have configured IaaS in Azure with both SQL and front end with no problems but i would like to see the communities approach to other Azure Services and any gotchas?

thanks in advance,

Hi,

We have, probably not uniquely, a need to have a range of access to our Solarwinds setup.

For NPM we need to create various levels of users / access and wondering if this is feasible?

Level 1: Access to all

Level 2: Access to all but the backend steup of Solarwinds

Level 3: Read-Only access to all areas but also have a R/W access to a subset of groups in NPM

Level 4: Read Only access

Level 5: client read only access to one specific group

Level's 1, 2, 4 & 5 shouldn't be hard to sort, as I understand things, but it's the level 3 access that is a head scratcher and maybe we'll just have to re-think our approach. The reasoniing behind this, is that we want to let project engineers do their own discoveries, map them, etc, etc but not move those maps / groups / folders into live client areas until they are ready and sanitised by a 2nd person.

Thoughts? Is the above possible or will we just have to go the route of creating additional users for teh prupose of r/w access for those that also need that and then just use auditing to keep an eye and tell them off where necessary?

Cisco Stackwise virtual

We just setup a new stackwise virtual stack on catalyst 9500.

Everything looks good but solarwinds complains that the stack data ring is only half redundant.

I have 2 links in the stack so there is redundancy. Is this just solarwinds complaining because its a newer technology and solarwinds doesnt work with it 100% or did I configure something wrong?

Can we monitor Meraki Switches via Solarwinds ?

$

We have a lot of meraki switches to be monitored. I need to know if it can be monitored via my Solarwinds console. I'm running NPM 12.2 and have configured meraki dashboard in my console via api. I need to know how to see the performance metrics and setup alerts for switches. I can view the switches in my cisco meraki console but however I can't see them in my Solarwinds console. I only see the access points. I'm aware that we can monitor AP's and setup alerts. But is there a way to monitor a switch ? If not, then can you suggest anyway to setup monitoring since these are cloud devices. Any help/advice will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Any self employed/solarwinds consultants?

Good afternoon.

I am seeking a little advice.  I am thinking of being a solarwinds consultant.  There are reasons for this.  One of them is strictly I am bored in the position I am nit right now.  I am not pushed enough in my day to day job. I do VM work outside of work, but that only gets me so far with regards to resources.

I will tell you a little about me and hopefully I can have a meaningful discussion about this:

About me:

- I am ex military IT professional.

- I would consider myself a thoughtful, very open and honest.

- I'm very relaxed.  Sometimes a little too relaxed in life.  That has got me in trouble in the past.  But when I have something that's a challenge for me, that's when I am driven and motivated.

- I would like to think I am fair and that I treat everyone as equal as possible.

- I will admit that I am not assertive enough.  Ergo - I am very relaxed in life.

- Also, I sometimes doubt my own abilities to do things. But I will always try to do something at least a dozen times to get it as right as I like it to be.

- I often say the worst things at the worst moments.  Which is why I hardly speak to anyone.

That's kinda me.

Me as a professional.

If we look at me as a professional:

- I like to be quite slow and logical in a project that I undertake.  I perceive this as a good thing because I enjoy looking at every possible angle prior to any action being taken.

- I tend to make safe, baby steps.

- I overlook the massive things for the more insignificant things.  Example - I have an issue with the infrastructure of drives in our estate.

- I'm very relaxed.

- I sometimes can't understand or see when something is and isn't a problem.  That's for most people I would imagine.

- I am naturally lazy with admin.  I have to force myself to do it.

  - If I make myself do it, I often write war and peace.

- If I really enjoy something then I could bore you until you got a beard with facts and stats (example - I love remembering IP addresses)

- If I don't want to do something I flat out won't do it.

That's a little about me.  My question is, for those that are already a consultant on solarwinds, what is it like?  What is a typical job for you?

How did you get involved in consultancy, ect.

PSU alerts

I am trying to create a catch-all alert that sends an email if a PSU goes down. With the current trigger conditions, it will email if the status of anything in the "Power Supply" category is not equal to "Up", including items that have a equivalent status such as "Normal" or "On". If I create conditions that include "Normal" or "Up" it will trigger on the others.

I would like to alert on actual PSUs and not objects in the "Power Supply" category. They don't always have the same name(Power Supply 1, FEX-157 Chassis 3 PS 1 PWR-C2-1025, Power Supply Module, V: 0.75v R0/21, etc.....)

Example: If status is not equal to "Normal" it will trigger on "Power Supply" objects with the current status of "Up"

Is there a better way to go about this?

Attached is a screen shot of my current trigger conditions.

: FEX-157 Chassis 3 PS 1 PWR-C2-1025

Hello Community! I recently deployed agents on various of the nodes I monitor and as marked in the attachment it says "Reboot Pending". Now I know that I can reboot the machine, BUT, what I wanted to know is if I can schedule a reboot due to that im not in the office at the time that I can actually work on that. Not sure if can be done but if it cant yet, would be something nice to implement as well as other options. Thank you in advance!
