Global Design - opinions
All,
I have a new requirement to start consolidating multiple individual instances on various versions into 1 global deployment. Many of you have done this and in 2009 someone asked what I'm about to ask:
What design considerations, using the latest licensing options and versions, would you recommend? Would you continue to use individual instances behind EOC? Would you completely consolidate and deploy APEs around the world? Azure/AWS deployment? What does your global deployment look like, would you change it/and why, what learning curves and "gotcha's"?
Any and all advice for this is greatly appreciated.

WiFi Discovery
So, I'm a brand new n00b to Solarwinds... I'v ebeen aware of it for years just the companies I've worked for haven't used it. Now, my current employer is moving on from our old product and we are taking up with SW. To that end, I'm liable to ask many stupi dquestions but I'm goign to beg your indulgence up front.
That said, I will, where my "search fu" works see if I can fin dthe answer myself. So first issue... I'm reading NPM 12.3 Admin Guide and it has this to say about wifi discovery: (emphasis mine)
The wireless interfaces are not found during discovery process. When a wireless device is added and an inventory search is performed, each wireless interface found is added to the database and polling begins.
Would someone be able to put this into plainer English fo rme as I'm not following it? As a practical example, I've run a discovery and it's picked up a switch and the 4 IP's that are the LAPs but it doesn't give me any details - no serial numbers, no interfaces, nothing. Secondly ConnectNow can't / won't do a layer 2 link up to the devices.
For the record I've singed up to the "Configuring Orion Views, Maps & Accounts" on July 11th so hoping that will help a bit but any other pointers at videos, or docs will be gratefully accepted.

Pings, traceroutes or other output into email alert
Trying to figure out how to do a couple of things.
- Add a ping and/or traceroute from the polling engine into an emailed alert. I can write the output of the desired commands to a file, and get the file contents into the clipboard if necessary. I just can't find a way to include them in the email alert.
- Add a ping and/or traceroute from a router/switch into an emailed alert.
Does anyone have any suggestions for how to do this?
Node Down report with Duration

I have created one but I am getting number of records/Duplicate entries suppose if node went down three times in a day it is showing me three entries
but I need only details of nodes which are currently down and from how long it is down

Hardware sensor alert for specific vendor
I am trying to create an alert that alerts on downed PSUs only from Cisco. When alerting on a Hardware Sensor I don't have an option to limit it to Cisco devices and the same applies when I alert on Nodes limited to a hardware category.
Am I missing something or is there no way to limit hardware sensor alerts to a specific vendor?
NPM and SWQL question
So I am aware that its possible to do this and even know some of the steps involved but as I'm not a coder or sql guru I don't know what info to put into the query.
Here's what I would like to do.
Have a summary view of Nodes that are down, what their ip address is, when they went down and the length of the down time.
I am able to find examples of some of this but when I try to put the code together it ends up saying error processing request.
So, hopefully someone can provide some insight into how to correctly do this.
thanks in advance.!
Unable to Poll Cisco ASA with CLI
Hi all,
I am unable to poll the Cisco Asa with CLI. The polling fails each time I test, and the password and enabled password is correct.
Please I need an solution to this.

Help with TACACS
Greetings All,
New comer to Solar Winds and hoping someone can comment on experiences using TACACS for dual authentication.
Interfaces sending alarms even when they are shutdown
If a Port on eg. my Nexus chassis is in shutdown but a SFP is inserted i get errors like "Lane 1 Transceiver Bias Current Sensor". I don't want to set the port to unmanaged or mute as i want to have it managed and reporting as soon it's turned active.
Is there a way to have a Interface, or a device in general, completely silent when it's shutdown?
How to Create a SQL transaction log report ?
Hi, I am looking for a transaction log report like SQL Full backup report.
NetPath issue
Hi,
I was having utilization issue on my primary poller so I have decided to change the polling engine of my NetPath agents from my primary to my additional poller, but since I have done that all the Path i have created stopped working. So I have revert back one agent to my primary poller and it started working again. Can anyone tell me why it is not working on my additional poller?

Mapping Confusion
Hi,
I have a simple network I've scanned in and am now mapping. See below.
I understand the why behind the red dashed line and have been and upvoted https://thwack.solarwinds.com/ideas/3827 already. However I'm confused by my result. On the left hand side are 2 ISP routers (same ISP) and we have read-only SNMP access to both routers and discovery picked up the correct interface that we physically connect to.
So question: Why is the primary router link showing a dashe dline but the secondary a full link and can dispaly utilisation or link speed?
Actions triggering with no evidence of alert taking place.
I have a node which has triggered a temperature alert (and the accompanying reset) the last few nights, with no evidence of such an event if I look at the logs on the device itself. This Alarm/Action is setup on several dozen nodes but this only seems to be happening on one of them, so I don't see how it can be a problem of the settings in the Alerting, but I also don't know what could be triggering this. Has anyone had a similar experience? Have any ideas as how to stop these False Alarm 2AM wake up calls? (Other than turning off the Alert in the night. We need 24hr monitoring)
Network Atlas - Map images, what map API and child maps question
New user to NPM and trying to figure out how to create a nice looking map. I don't care for the default orange maps that are included in Network Atlas and was told I can use my own. Great! So I've been using Google to find some new maps of North America, but can't seem to find any that interest me. Using Google Earth now to save map images. What have others used?
Also, I created groups based off State locations. Within those groups, I have network nodes. I want to be able to drill down on the map to see the nodes in case one appears down. In some reading, it seems like I need to create child maps. So, if I have 13 or so state maps, do I put the nodes on the child maps, and then somehow connect the child maps to my main map that shows the entire country and group names that are based off the locations? Hope that makes sense, still having my coffee.
Lastly, should I be using Google maps or Mapquest API? I'd like to use Longitude and Latitude in order to place my groups that are based off of City, ST.
Thanks in advance for any helpful information.
Tips and Tricks for a New to NPM / Atlas / etc
So come on folks ...
You must have found frustrations when you first started with Solarwinds?
So what tips and tricks that you've maybe learned the hard way do you have for a newbie?
Stuff like:
- how can you mass change the graphics in atlas for any given bit of hardware?
- once a graphic is added can I bulk edit their size?
- if not, can I change the default size a specific graphic comes in at?
- How can you edit SNMP details after they've been added during a scan
- how can you manually add interaces in NPM (I know this one now)
- add a new interface for apreviously discovered node / object (also know this one)
- any specific tips for osmeone transitioning from using WhatsUp Gold and WhatsConnected from IPSwitch?
- etc ...
Menu bar links disappearing!!
I have just finished a fresh install of Platform 2018.2.1 SP1 with NPM 12.3 and am experiencing an issue that was supposedly fixed with an earlier version. Namely, that links are randomly disappearing from menu bars. For example, the Settings menu appears with only the Settings link - the Manage Nodes and Network Discovery links are missing. The user account logged in has all the default settings and no limitations. Running the Config Wizard repairs the functionality.
Any ideas what is going on? Thanks.

How can I modify/View the Y graph into a percentage format instead of BW
I'd like to know if it is possible or anyone was able to modify the Y graph to view it as percentage instead of Bandwidth view format?
Find Alerts with Specific Node Properties
Hello,
I'm fairly new to Solarwinds so I apologize for the newbie question. I recently found out that a node's properties (and custom properties) are frequently used when creating alerts. This means that if I change the value of a property, the alerts pertaining to this node may no longer apply. Is there a way to know which alerts apply to a particluar node, or if there is a way to dump the alerts with information about what the particular triggers are?
