Question about installing Anti-Virus on NPM

I came across the following SolarWinds Knowledge Base Article listed below and it recommended to add the "NETWORK SERVICE", "IUSR" and "Authenticated Users" local accounts to all of the listed directories in the article.    Does this need to be done and what is the impact on SolarWinds if it is not completed.  The reason I ask this question is because it wasn't listed in the NPM or EOC Administrator Guide.
