Bandwitdth Threshdold Alert

Hi

I would like to create a bandwitdth alert that triggers when traffic reaches a certain threshhold either percentage of interface or specific in bps. How do I go about doing that? Do I have to first set the bandwitdth on the interface and then set the trigger?
